It wasn't off piste and it wasn't too tight, but we slowly started picking up speed. It was great, feeling the rush of wind against my face as we started to accelerate. Then, suddenly, the piste opened up and just ahead of us was almost a straight fall. We barely managed to stop just in time. Turned out we'd found an extremely steep slope. While it was still covered in snow, it looked very dangerous.
We decided that we'd be able to get down on the left side of it, where it was still pretty steep, but safe enough to just plough down slowly with the boards. Then we heard a loud siren. We quickly realised it was an avalanche warning. Luckily, we'd ended up on a peak and weren't in danger, but we could see the enormous masses of ice and snow; chunks as big as apartment complexes loosening and tumbling down the hillside of a nearby peak.
Suddenly, fires erupted from the ground around us and we had to start dodging through them as we made our way down. We occasionally got caught in the flames, setting our clothes on fire and we had to douse them in piles of snow. Another guy, cosplaying as Kakashi, joined us and we started down together, only stopping to douse flames in snow piles.
Finally, we reached safety in a restaurant where the girls were as well. Mum explained that the fires were from wells of oil that had burst from the pressure of the avalanche.
