It was my last day in Russia. I had been working there and enjoyed my time in the city with Simon and Karsten. It was a beautiful, sunny day.
I'm the end, it was time to go get the luggage at the hotel. I went in there with Simon and told Karsten that we'd meet outside (by the kebab place?) afterwards.
However, in the hotel I couldn't find my room. It was a combined office for my colleagues, with a lot of nooks and small rooms and I was looking for a sign saying "undead", because that was the team I had been on. As I kept going through the different offices, all painted in the same lemon colour and filled with people and paperwork and small doors on the sides, I was unable to find the sign.
I asked a janitor where the "undead sign" was. He told me that there were no undead here. I was confused, until I realised that there was a staff change happening; perhaps the team names had just been changed. The janitor didn't know anything about that, but I also remembered at that point that I'd cleared out my room and only needed to pick up my luggage in the reception.
As I exited the place with my bag and jacket in hand, it came to me that Simon wasn't with me. I didn't have time to think about that, however, since I soon needed to be on the train to the airports.
I looked around and didn't know where I was. Yes! That way! I started running with my hands carrying bags and jacket trailing behind me. It occurred to me that I must look stupid, doing what mostly resembled the Naruto run, but then I noticed how incredibly fast I was and hoped to myself that people who thought I looked silly at least acknowledged that (interesting bit about needing other people's approval imo).
I had been running down a large road that I thought led back to the place I was before, but I ended up being more lost and had to consult my maps on my phone. Turns out this had been a side street and I needed to go back again and find an even bigger one. I started running again, but kept getting more lost. I tried getting an idea of local traffic and any bus or tram I could take, as there seemed to be plenty of both, but the app didn't support it.
Feeling how I was starting to lose hope, I tried hailing a taxi. Then I saw a young woman, which I felt compelled to follow.
My head filled with her narration of a story about an abandoned fun fair, which I was now entering from the side of the street. I came to be walking upon tracks of an old roller coaster, which was going through a room with small hills and turns. Other people were there, too, and I could see one of them falling straight through the floor at one place, where it clearly appeared that what we were walking upon was artifical scenery, meant to be seen and not treaded on.
The young woman told of the old fair ground, her voice speaking in my head as if I was watching a film, and how it had been abandoned and she didn't expect anything to be there.
"but then I heard the restless Draugr"
A door opened slightly, just where she was standing, and I saw her listening intently. Through the gap in the door I could see a pair of rat-like men, arguing over which way to go. The air was tense as these were clearly dangerous creatures and the woman was close to them now. One of them dropped an ear-ring of sorts, which was adjoined to his other ear, and he needed to bend down just through the gap of the door. He stopped, as if he'd sensed the girl... But decided to go back in.
